Sails for the Star 45
Currently offering 3 different cuts in order to best suit your sailing style and appearance.
2008

Original Cut "Great for drifters!"
Main and Jib Set
Main is a Trispi 40 main
Jib is a flat single paneled cut made of Trispi 25 or Trispi 40 your choice.
Corners are rounded, not star burst

The jib is perfectly flat. However, it has a pocket down the luff and due to its very light weight cloth, it does develop an airfoil when stretched. This is a continuation of the Blackwell Star sails that use to be the norm for the Star 45. Because of the very flat drafts, this set is the fasted in no wind drifters. In dead drifters, their not enough energy in the wind to travel over a full cambered sail. However, this flat design with its light weight T25 jib, is very fast. Due to the simplicity of the design, this set is recommended for the non racer or the beginner. However, an experienced sailor can do very well also as our Star class secretary uses this design and you can almost always find him in the top 3. Corner can be red, blue, black, white, green, or yellow.

Windjammin Cut "Most Popular - used to win 5 Nats!!"
Main and JIb Set
Main is a Trispi 40 main
Jib is a 6 paneled cut made of
Trispi 25 or Trispi 40 your choice.
Add the neater Star burst Corners and jib draft stripes.

This jib was designed from our latest Y-Flyer jib (real 18' 2 man boat) which just won the Y-Flyer Nationals with (46 boat fleet). This design is also the design that has won the Star 45 Nationals the last 5 out of 6 years. The jib is made up of 6 panels. This allows the shape to be carried much higher up the luff creating more power. The first design was derived from simply scaling down the Y-Flyer design. However, further testing proved then lead to flattening that sown a little for the models which lead to a 95% camber jib, a 90% camber, and an 85%. After sailing with all these designs, it seemed the 90% camber is the best mix for our scale boats. Corner can be red, blue, black, white, green, or yellow.

Star Cut "Something Special!"
Main and JIb Set
Main is a Trispi 40 main
Jib is a 6 paneled cut made of Trispi 25 or Trispi 40 your choice.
Radial Corners and jib draft stripes.

This set uses the exact same airfoil as the Windjammin cut set above. The only difference is this sail's seam layout resembles that of the real Star boat in the way they lay out the panels and seams. The head of the main sail has 3 panels cut vertically on the grain to help with stretch as well as use stretch in a way that helps create the airfoil all the way to the head of the sail. The mains foot is then made up of 4 panels rotated vertically to also aid in stretch.

This jib was designed from our latest Y-Flyer jib (real 18' 2 man boat) which just won the Y-Flyer Nationals with (46 boat fleet). This design is also the design that has won the Star 45 Nationals the last 3 out of 4 years. The sail is made up of 8 panels.

This set is not intended to be faster or a better design, but was designed just for the elite sailor who strives to be different. The extra seaming is very trick, and so the price is much higher... meaning only a select few will ever sail this cut.
